Ingredients:
Casserole
1 lb loaf Sourdough Or French Bread, cut into chunks
3 cups (326g) chopped apples (2 large apples)
8 large eggs
2 cups (480ml) milk (whole or 2%)
1/2 cup (120ml) heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup (104g) sugar
1/4 cup (36g) light brown sugar, unpacked
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Streusel Topping
3/4 cup (98g) all-purpose flour
3/4 cup (169g) firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp apple pie spice
1/2 cup (112g) salted butter, cut into pieces
Instructions:
Lightly oil a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Mix together the bread pieces and chopped apples, then spread them out evenly in the prepared dish.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk the other casserole ingredients (except for the streusel) and pour this mixture over the bread. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight.
To bake, preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C).
Cook the casserole uncovered for about 35-40 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the streusel by mixing the dry components in a separate bowl. Incorporate the butter, mashing it into the dry ingredients until the mixture becomes crumbly.
After the casserole has baked, take it out of the oven and sprinkle the streusel evenly on top.
Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the streusel has melted and formed a crust.
Serve the casserole warm, accompanied by syrup
